Lifeguard Program

Gerrish Swim and Tennis Club prides itself in advancing the highest level of safety of any club of swimming facility in the San Gabriel Valley. Before lifeguards are hired, they must undergo rigorous training and once hired, continuous season in-services and training is required.

Gerrish guards are also subject to two in-season Vigilance Awareness Tests (VATs). VATs are real-time, on-stand scenarios that are enacted by lifeguard supervisors to test the awareness and response skills of our guards. The must receive a passing score to remain on stand.

Lifeguard Certification Classes

Gerrish also hosts official Red Cross Lifeguard Certification classes in the Spring every year. Please see the attached flyer for the Spring 2024 class. Certification classes are open to anyone and includes an online component. The in-person portion of the class is held over a Saturday/Sunday at Gerrish. Getting certified at Gerrish does not guarantee placement as a lifeguard at the club.
